Bonalu a Hindu festival celebrated in Telangana state of India has its own significnce. It is a festival of goddess Mahakali who wards off evil forces with her mighty power,people believe.To gain her blessings  people perform poojas to appease her in various forms .Hyderabad and Secunderabad Bonalu has great importance with lakhs of people come for her visit every year and participate in mass Procession and pay obeisance to mahankali .Bonalu is celebrated in Ashadha masam as per hindu calendar and falls in the month of July/August every year.This year Secunderabad Bonalu kick start on July 26th with Ghatala edurkollu and main festival is on 2nd August with Rangam on 3rd.Oldcity bonalu main festival on 9th August with Rangam celebrations on 10th August. Ghatala Edurkollu and installation of Goddess idol starts on 2nd August amid mass procession from Historical Vishwanatha Temple in Shalibanda .Laldarwaza Simhavahini Mahakali temple,Hari Bowli Akkanna Madanna Temple,Shalibanda Mutyalamma Temple,Aliabad Darbar Maisamma Temple,gowlipura Kota Maisamma Temple,Sultan Shahi Bangaru maisamma and Uppuguda Jagadamba temples are few renowned temples in Old city of Hyderabad in terms of their heritage and history.

Hyderabad 13th July 2014: Telangana Ashadha maasa Bonalu at Secunderabad Kick started on a grand note today amid traditionally attired women with Bonam on their heads stood in long queues patiently for their turn for the darshan of the presiding deity of Ujjain Mahankali Temple. Devotees from various parts of the state have thronged at the temple from 6 am in the morning and form a beeline queue.

VIPs Attend Bonalu :
A number of VIPs, including the Chief Minister of Telangana KCR,CM of A.P N. Chandrababu Naidu, Secunderabad M.P Bandaru Dattatreya, MLA T. Srinivas Yadav, Telangana Ministers Nayini Narasimha Reddy,Padma Rao,Etela Rajender have paid a visit for the Darshan.

A.P. CM Chandrababu Naidu:
Babu said, He has prayed the deity for a bountiful rainfall this year and Telugu People from both the states should move ahead for better prospects in the near future.

Home Minister of Telangana –Nayini Narasimha Reddy:
We prayed the presiding deity for Separate state for Telangana last year and  the same has been fulfilled.People believe the deity as the powerful one who showers her blessing to make their dreams come true.
He made some funny Comments “Ishtamunnatha Tintaru and Istamunnatha Thagutharu” on Bonalu day to make all belated and laugh.

The administration made elaborate arrangements like putting up barricades, first-aid stalls and provision for drinking water. A strong posse of police was on bandobust, monitored by the Commissioner, Maheder Reddy.
