Bonalu a Hindu festival celebrated in Telangana state of India has its
own significnce. It is a festival of goddess Mahakali who wards off evil forces
with her mighty power,people believe.To gain her blessings people perform poojas to appease her in
various forms .Hyderabad and Secunderabad Bonalu has great importance with
lakhs of people come for her visit every year and participate in mass
Procession and pay obeisance to mahankali .Bonalu
is celebrated in Ashadha masam as per hindu calendar and falls in the month of
July/August every year.This year Secunderabad Bonalu kick start on July 26th
with Ghatala edurkollu and main festival is on 2nd August with
Rangam on 3rd.Oldcity bonalu main festival on 9th August
with Rangam celebrations on 10th August. Ghatala Edurkollu and
installation of Goddess idol starts on 2nd August amid mass
procession from Historical Vishwanatha Temple in Shalibanda .Laldarwaza
Simhavahini Mahakali temple,Hari Bowli Akkanna Madanna Temple,Shalibanda
Mutyalamma Temple,Aliabad Darbar Maisamma Temple,gowlipura Kota Maisamma
Temple,Sultan Shahi Bangaru maisamma and Uppuguda Jagadamba temples are few renowned
temples in Old city of Hyderabad in terms of their heritage and history.
